You're soooo right about "short shrift to Jesus", Michael. Recently, I chatted with my evangelical neighbors while exchanging clumps of hostas and rhubarb from our back yards. I asked 'em about the latest sermon they heard in their church. Matter of fact, these self-identified Christians don't go to church; don't even belong to one. I mentioned the latest sermon in mine, based on something Jesus preached. They thought Jesus wasn't preaching; he was auditioning for a prime-time slot on MSNBC.
