Your willingness to engage a squirrel in a battle wits is admirable, Owen. Here is Michigan, we learned long ago to hoist a white flag above a cage containing suet or a feeder filled with bird seed. Our eastern gray squirrels are bound to beat us every time. It’s their dexterity that defeats us. Their nimble little fingers can unhook any latch. Prise up any hatch. Pick any lock. One of them undid my three-prong bra clasp without my even knowing it was back there. (I still don’t know why it thought my cups contained bird seed.)
