This is your usual masterful job of writing, Glenn.

You mentioned that Saddam and his minions failed to appreciate modern technology's impact on warfare. That reminded me of a story my older brother told me back then. He did twenty in the Army - enlisted MP, Russian translator, stationed in Berlin during Gulf I. He'd heard of a conversation between one of our generals a captured Iraqi general. The Iraqi said his staff was shocked when our forces came clanking out of the deep desert and slammed into their right flank. They didn't think a large formation could maneuver in the deep desert. Our general showed him a standard issue GPS device which allowed our forces to navigate without radio direction-finding, landmarks, or the stars. The Iraqi general had no idea that technology was available to formations operating in the field.
