This is a fine bit of writing, Dale. And I’m glad you got your hitch in Hueys. I have fond memories of them from when I was a Navy air traffic controller (1974-78). On one occasion at Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine, an Orion was a mile north inbound, a Nightingale Medevac needed to launch to the south, a COD and an Orion were doing touch ‘n goes, a flight of three Guard Hueys was coming down the coast to overfly us at 3,000, and civilian traffic was buzzing around. The Medevac had priority, and I told him I was about to steer some traffic around to create a gap. That’s when the Huey’s leader piped up and said “If it’ll be helpful, Brunswick, we can halt here and hover.” Crimeny, that’s just what I needed. I immediately cleared the Nightingale, and two minutes later the Hueys were on their way with my thanks.
