From what I've heard about vibrators (because I'm too pure and chaste to have personal knowledge), the way alkalines discharge electricity can sometimes cause delicate vibrator motors to rev up, then burn out. There's no risk of injury to the operator. But the vibrator is toast. Lithium batteries seem to store more energy, and discharge it at a comparatively even rate of flow, so they don't damage the motors.
