Fat Boy was there when I was, according to what I see on the internet. It was established in 1955; I was stationed at NASB from June ‘76 to June ‘78. I see it on Google Maps, just east of the approach end of runway one-nine-left.

I never traveled the stretch of Bath Road where Fat Boy is located. I bicycled everywhere; never owned a car. If I went west into town or on to Freeport, I didn’t use Bath Road. I took the base perimeter road to a personnel exit near St. John’s Cemetery on the edge of town. If I went east - say, then south on The Harpswells, or east to Bath or Fort Popham, I took Fitch Avenue through the main gate to Bath Road, a quarter mile east of Fat Boy.

I certainly heard of places like Fat Boy. Guys talked about hitting them for lobster rolls.

So Charles, how do you know about “Broomstick”?
