Charles, your writing is in a style I don’t see much of anymore. Not in The Atlantic, Politico, Bridge (an excellent source of statewide Michigan news), nor my local rag.
But it’s so familiar. It reminds me of the old Chicago Daily News. Like you were taught to write by its city editor, Clement Lane. Lane was long dead by the time I started reading the News. But the reporters still followed his guidelines for writing sharp, clean stories. The News put out what I have always believed newspaper writing should be. Your writing reads like that. Crimeny, it even carries whiffs of Lucky Strike ash and Old Grand Dad.
