Charles, Charles, Charles. There you go again: making perfect sense.
I saw an interesting take on this subject (I think it was in The New York Times). The writer noted the concern that declining birth rates could reduce a country’s workforce, reducing its productivity and economy while increasing the cost of the social safety net for seniors. A bunch of countries in Europe have responded with policies, funding and programs to:
1) Help people stay healthy longer so they can work past the usual retirement age, if they want to; and
2) Configure education and job training resources to encourage life-long learning and the development of new job skills. If people can’t handle their current jobs, or find them unfulfilling or boring, they can continue to work, if they want to, by developing new skills, and finding more doable and interesting jobs.
The article cited the Nordic countries as an example.
