Ah so, Randy, you know the territory.
You're right: Ottawa has always been conservative, on account of the Dutch Reformed people. I know a builder in Zealand who told me about the three Dutch Reformed churches clustered in Holland. He said one of them is extremely conservative - and the others are even more so. But the new members of the board are radicals. If they don't tone it down and govern responsibly, at least a few of them may be voted out when their terms are up.
Interesting that you mentioned Midland. We have a number of refugees from Dow on the Leelanau. I've heard 'em talk about the air up here - how different it smells. As opposed to the aminoethanolamines and other stuff they smelled in Midland neighborhoods east of Swede when the wind was out of the southwest. Not that they minded, they said. When they sniffed those smells, it meant that Dow was makin' money.
